In October 2021, The Suffragist Reenactment Society played in ten venues across the state to enthusiastic reviews. Commissioned by the Vermont Suffrage Centennial Alliance as part of its mission to commemorate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, the play covers the history of how women fought for and won the right to vote in the United States.
Vermont actors Kathryn Blume (Charlotte,) Sarah Mell (Winooski,) and Julia Sioss (Colchester) reenact the determination and conflicts of suffragists from Susan B. Anthony to Ida B. Wells while addressing the complex interplay of race and gender in the suffrage movement. The play, written through a modern lens by Mary Beth McNulty, is directed by Laura Roald.
